Hempstead

Hempstead is the county seat of Waller County, located at the junction of US-290 and SH-6 about 50 miles northwest of Houston. Known as the "Watermelon Capital of Texas," the city offers affordable small-town living with a historic character, Prairie View A&M University proximity, and improving highway access to the Houston metro as US-290 continues to be upgraded.
